The following fleeces were shorn on 5th November 2011.
The sheep were coated, unless otherwise stated. Fleeces with codes ending '10' are weaner fleeces and these may not have been coated all year, also they are usually finer than they look.
Measurements given are approximate.
The colour reproduction is not necessarily accurate. The label cards were all written with the same black felt pen so this should give you an indication if the photo is lighter than it should be.
All coated fleeces are $20/kg, and uncoated $18/kg

Unfortunately our shearing had to be postponed due to wet weather. We now hope to have our sheep shorn on 5th November so everyone please pray for a few dry days beforehand so we can get the sheep in the shed nice and dry and ready for the shearer!!

WOOL SCOURED AT LAST!!!

At last, after months and months of waiting, Velieris P/L at Braybrook, Melbourne, have finally got the wool scour up and running and my wool has been done! Yay! I have one lot of white and one lot of grey which will now be sent to Cashmere Connections at Bacchus Marsh for top-making! So hopefully I'll have some new tops available in the foreseeable future!

Velieris is accepting wool for scouring now - so if you have a any you want scoured, give them a call!

FLEECES TO CLEAR!

I've just added a few fleeces to the fleece list. (Scroll down to 5 Nov.'10) Due to fantastic fleece sales this year I only have lesser quality fleeces left. One or two are tender but would still be quite OK for felting. The uncoated ones are not as clean as our top-quality coated fleeces, obviously, but at these low prices what's a little bit of VM!?!?

I've been working on patterns for baby vests - very simple and easy! Variations for knitting in one piece or in the round, shoulder or front opening, knitted or crocheted bands. I've used 4ply hand-dyed Silky Wool in four different colourways. The patterns will be available free of charge when I'm satisfied that they are correct and clear!

Today a parcel of new yarns from Anna Gratton Ltd of New Zealand have arrived and they are just lovely! 4ply machine washable pure wool in fabulous heather blends and 10ply crinkle which is wool with a black poly/nylon wrap thread. Beautiful colours! I'm expecting a second parcel with 8ply machine washable pure wool - hope it hasn't gone astray!

I'm also adding Earth Palette Dyes to my store - 200g packs for $2.70 each, in 10 colours! These are cold dyes specially-formulated for wool and other animal fibres. They are very easy to mix and use and the colours are brilliant!

FLEECES

At Shiloh Wool, on the beautiful Bellarine Peninsula in Victoria, we produce natural-coloured wool for hand-spinners and wool-crafters. We run a small flock of black, brown and white Bond X sheep, most of which are coated throughout the year to keep the fleece-wool as free of contamination as possible. After shearing, in October each year, each fleece is rolled up with paper and individually wrapped and labeled. Our fleeces are checked and re-skirted if necessary before dispatching to spinners world-wide!

COMBED TOP
At Shiloh we match fleeces which are similar in colour, style and micron, to blend for top-making. To make top, the scoured wool is gilled and combed to align the fibres. This doesn’t alter the natural colours and the wool is ready to spin from the roll or pack with no further preparation and little or no waste. Your newly-spun yarn can be knitted up straight away, greatly reducing the time taken to produce the finished garment! Spinning from combed top makes it easy to produce a smooth, strong yarn and combed top is also excellent for anyone who has an allergy to the wool-grease (lanolin).
